Dan McDougal

Partner, Program Director

Uintas/Blue Ridge

Dan continues his 19+ years of experience of program development and work with young people in a therapeutic and outdoor setting. Dan started in outdoor education working with teens at the Raasay Island Outdoor Center on the Isle of Raasay, moving from there to work at Gordonstoun Summer School in Moray, Scotland, founded by Kurt Hahn, the founder of Outward Bound. In both jobs, he guided sailing, backpacking, windsurfing and climbing trips. From Scotland, Dan returned to the States, to work with teens as a Senior Wilderness Instructor at Aspen Achievement Academy in Southern Utah.

At the beginning of Second Nature in 1998, Dan was hired by the Second Nature Wilderness Program, and helped during the developmental phase of the program’s creation. At that time he helped assist in the field programing. He worked as a Senior Mentor and Field Director with Second Nature Uintas for 5 years.

In 2001, Dan recognized the need for regional services and developed and co-founded Second Nature Blue Ridge in Georgia.
In 2012 Dan was invited to join as an owner of Second Nature Uintas due to his track record of successfully running Second Nature Blue Ridge.

Dan grew up in Brentwood, TN so returning East was a great fit for him. During his free time Dan likes to play indoor and outdoor soccer, ride his bike, camp, ski, and spend time with his family.
