Brian was born and raised in Ireland and moved to the United States in 1990. He graduated from Colaiste Dhualaigh in Dublin, Ireland, where he specialized in Outdoor Education. He has spent the last 15 years working with kids and families in various parts of the U.S including Alaska, Arizona, Idaho and Oregon.
During this time he was the Wilderness Director for Vision Quest in Arizona. He also worked with the CEDU schools for seven years, as the Program Director for Phoenix Outdoor Education Center in Vermont and as Program Manager at the Ascent program.
As Field Director, Brian is responsible for land management, supervision of field instructors and for program development. He holds certification as a Wilderness First Responder and has attended various workshops and conferences with organizations including the National Outdoor Leadership School and the Association for Experiential Education.
He is an avid (read “struggling”) golfer as well as a sailor and certified diver. He has crewed tall ships on the eastern seaboard and sloops and other recreational vessels in waters around this continent, as well as Europe.

Dr. J Huffine is a Licensed Psychologist who has worked as a mental health professional for 22 years. He has been employed as a wilderness therapist and clinical director for the past seven years. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in 1977, teaching high school for four years following that. He attended the University of North Texas in the early eighties and obtained a Master’s Degree and Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology. His graduate school research centered upon learning disabilities and academic underachievement. J worked as a School Psychologist for several years following graduate school. His primary area of expertise was with Special Education populations, especially students with Learning Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Dr. Huffine worked in private practice for 12 years, mostly with children and adolescents. He started working in a therapeutic wilderness program in Texas in 1998. His current professional interests are primarily related to utilizing wilderness in the therapeutic treatment of the more clinically complicated adolescents, including those who may be socially challenged, those with depression, anxiety disorders, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and also talented and gifted adolescents.
J enjoys many activities, most of which are outdoors, including backpacking, rock climbing, white water sports, mountain biking, snowboarding, and photographing wildlife.

Dr. Willow Huffine is a licensed psychologist and registered nurse. As a nurse she gained experience in many areas of the medical field including emergency and psychiatric services. She later earned an M.A. in Clinical Psychology and then a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University. In her pursuit of integrating body, mind and spirit, Dr. Huffine eventually returned to school to earn a B.A. in spiritual studies.
As a psychologist, Willow spent many years gaining experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families. She has worked with psychiatric hospitals, community mental health centers, Child Protective Services, the federal prison system, and both residential and wilderness programs for at-risk youth.
Dr. Huffine moved to Oregon from Texas; she enjoys Oregon’s diverse terrain and opportunities for snow sports, water sports, rock-climbing and backpacking.
